Cold Shoulder

No this post isn’t about being stand-offish or dismissive, I’d never be that 😉, it’s about this fabulous off the shoulder number I picked up recently! I’ve said time and again that I never have to look for clothing for a special occasion because I always have something on standby. During my recent trip to Atlanta trip, for my sister Khesi’s 40th birthday celebration, we had a girls night out. I wore a vibrant orange body con dress with RUFFLES!!! It’s in the details y’all! I paired it with a chunky Etniciti bangle, a skinny black belt and a simple black clutch.

Check out some pics from that night and read to the end for where to get this look or a similar style! I loved this dress so much when I ordered that I got it in black as well.

“Eye let” the Shirt Speak!

Here’s another quick look I put together on my recent girls trip to ATL. This is something that could easily carry you from brunch with the girls to a shopping excursion and everything in between!

I paired a beautifully detailed cropped eyelet top with a high waisted pant. Y’all know I love details so the cuffs and the ruffles pulled at my heartstrings! By adding a head wrap and a few staple accessories, my look was complete.

My sister Khesi and I having fun and laughing about who knows what! I told y’all we take pictures ALL THE TIME! Our friend Kevin Marie couldn’t believe the number of pictures we took during our visit!

Old Lady Gang

If you follow RHOA, that’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, then you likely know that co-star Kandi Burruss has a family restaurant called Old Lady Gang in ATL. We stopped in as part of my sister’s surprise birthday weekend recently.

Khesi had no idea a room full of family and friends was waiting for her behind the door. After the big surprise laughter, good eating, dancing and of course an impromptu photoshoot ensued!!

Full from recent brunch, I didn’t eat much. I tried the fried deviled eggs and macaroni and cheese. Some of the other ladies really enjoyed the fried catfish and chicken. The service was good and our waitress was here for all of our photo shenanigans!! We literally had a full blown shoot in the private room cause that’s how we do!

If you decide to check out OLG, know that it is pretty busy throughout the day. Our party was very large so reservations were made well in advance. Also be prepared to pay $10 to park in their lot, insert side eye, if street parking isn’t available.

Keep following for more on my trip to ATL and what I wore! Thanks for following and be well!!

Sequins and Denim

People always ask me where I shop and my answer is the same, EVERYWHERE! I LOVE unique pieces just as much as a fabulous deal; if I can get that combo in one place then I’m there!!

I wore this look on the first day of my sister Khesi’s surprise birthday weekend in ATL. All of the attendees ordered custom “birthday squad” tees and styled them in their own way.

I paired mine with a high waisted jean that I got recently at Forever 21 for 17 bucks! They fit like a glove. I added a dose of sparkle with a sequin cardigan from, you guessed it, Forever 21!! A lot of people avoid that store thinking they won’t find anything. That couldn’t be further from the truth for me. I find great pieces all the time; it just takes a little searching and a keen eye!

Ready For Tea!

I recently posted about an amazing day party with some mom friends. I needed to circle back to discuss the details of my look. When I think “tea party” I think of fascinators so I created my own headpiece by combining a unique printed wrap and a black clip on birdcage..

Since the theme of the event was Tea and Tees I wore a shirt by Robin Kindrick of Jahzi Brand with the wording “SEAUX DOPE” (SO DOPE). Use code DRKING at checkout for 25% off your order!!!

Then I added a few accessories: a peplum belt (past season ASOS) and an expertly handcrafted leather bow tie by Peter Gaona of Reformed School.

Rounding Out the look was a past season red vegan leather skirt from Zara and a pair of chevron striped pumps.

Not Your Average Tea Party

If you’ve followed me for a while then you know I’m part of an amazing group of moms in the Chicago area. A collection of friends old and new have become each other’s virtual village. Started by my friend Kiana Keys of Sassy Plum, the group is the epitome of sisterhood. We laugh and cry together, obtain sage advice, share recipes and that’s just the beginning!

Well recently we gathered for another fabulous Ditch Day. What is Ditch Day you ask? It’s when all the moms play hooky from work and home, shout out to the SAHMs, and come together for food, drinks and fun!! It has been my absolute pleasure to be on the planning committee with women I now call friends.

The theme this go round was Tees and Tea. Moms descended on a local restaurant in their most creative and fabulous t-shirts and enjoyed a lovely tea service prior to lunch.

Upon arrival, moms had fun posing with the social media sign!

No mom talk event is without entertainment. We played an alphabetical what’s in your purse game and found out something we already knew, mommas keep lots of random stuff in their purses.

After lunch we played ‘A Diva’s Memory’ to see how sharp our mommy brains were! Kiana passed a tray throughout the room with lots of items that each mom had to attempt to recall.

Although we are pretty close knit, we also had the opportunity to share a little about ourselves with the group.

The fun wasn’t over yet! We had a full blown fashion show for mom’s to model their shirts!! We danced and took selfies galore before the event was over.

Finally, what would a party be without a parting gift?! Our own Jenn Leflore, of Mama Fresh Chicago, created some beautiful mugs for coffee, tea or *ahem* wine! They were a beautiful addition to our tablescape!

I had a blast capturing and attending our 4th Ditch Day and can’t wait until the next one!!

LUXE FOR LESS

By now, y’all KNOW I love a good deal. I love sharing amazing finds! I also love a luxe look. So, this post is no different. I found this fabulous knit, brocade look, bodycon dress at, insert DRUMROLL… JCPENNEY!! I got it about two months ago; it’s part of their Project Runway line. I’m a huge PR fan so this purchase was a no brainer! This dress was all of $15 after store discounts and coupons were applied!! It’s still on sale, see link below to buy.

I wore it recently to a friend’s birthday dinner and had a fabulous photoshoot in it as well. I’ll be blogging about the shoot, with photographer Tykeith Nelson, soon! For now here are some pics of my impromptu shoot at dinner! We went to GILT BAR, in Chicago, that place is dark but made for a great scene!
